Katie Nunnery, English PhD
I am a longtime lover of books and a relatively new book blogger. I spent most of my twenties getting a PhD in Literature focusing on Victorian Literature, Children’s Literature, and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Please talk to me about 1890s British Decadence and/or Kenneth Grahame’s Mr. Toad.
I am also a composition instructor. I’ve been teaching college writing in one form or another for about eight years now, first in Connecticut and more recently in New Orleans. So I may use this space for thoughts about pedagogy, rhetoric, and academic life as well.
These days I put in effort to read for pleasure. While reading has been my job for a decade now, there was a time where it ceased to be a joy. I only ever read in the service of work: teaching or research. But eventually I felt the need to touch base with my favorite hobby (and de-stressor) by incorporating reading that has nothing to do with my work into my schedule. Through this I’ve brought fantasy, science fiction, popular nonfiction, and mystery back into my life.
I love talking about books, especially with other people who love books. So, at the risk of turning all of my reading into work again, I’ve dabbled in bookstagram and blogging for about a year now. I still haven’t quite found the best balance but I hope to keep this blog low key, posting what I’m most excited to share and avoiding the driving pace of the scramble for followers. I hope you’ll join me in this casual approach.
